Oxford Innovation

The UK’s largest Innovation Centre operator

Founded by the Oxford Trust in 1987, Oxford Innovation are now the UK’s leading operator of innovation centres – providing flexible workspace and support for early stage science, technology and innovative SMEs.

Our founding mission was to provide three crucial areas of support for technology start-ups – as experienced by our founders Sir Martin and Lady Audrey Wood, when they spun out Oxford Instruments from the University of Oxford in the 1950’s. That was:

(Really) flexible and affordable workspace…

whether that’s an office, workshop or laboratory.

Access to funding that fills the gap…

between what an entrepreneur can raise themselves through family and friends and what a Venture Capital firm might fund.

Support from highly qualified mentors…

coaches and other entrepreneurs through part-funded business support programmes.

Though much has changed in the past 30 years, our mission hasn’t, and along the way we have built up a wealth of experience and stories of success – for us and the SMEs we support.

We now operate 25 incubation and innovation centres across the UK

Supporting more than 1,000 innovative early stage and growth businesses in a wide range of sectors: space, pharma, creative and digital, social and health, professional services and emerging sectors such as Internet of Things, big data and Blockchain technologies.

All our centres, managed on behalf of local authorities, universities, research institutes and private sector landlords, provide not only space for businesses to grow but more importantly, highly impactful business support that transforms start-ups into scale ups creating high value jobs and new technologies and innovations that positively impact on their local and national economies.

Our Centres

Our centres are at the heart of their local business eco-systems and act as a catalyst for change in improving the success and sustainability of innovative SMEs and in forging collaborations and connections not only within the individual centres but across the UK. The interactive map details the locations of our existing centres.

The OI Space Incubator will be hosted at two of our Hampshire innovation centres:

Lee-on the-Solent

Fareham Innovation Centre

(new centre in 2015 – opening major extension of workshops and offices soon in 2018). One of our goals is to manifest and create Space Downstream cluster at the centre on an regional airfield – drone licensed – overlooking the Solent. This centre achieved 100% occupancy within 10 months and is now doubling in size to host 55 offices, 33 workshops/ labs and a 100-seat conference centre – in time for the core elements of this programme.

Bordon

BASE Bordon Innovation Centre

(new centre in late 2017). Again, one of goals is to augment the already present Space cluster in the East Hampshire and Surrey border with proximity to London.
